Holmes named D3football.com Preseason All-American

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson football senior Brendan Holmes has been named a D3football.com Preseason All-America Third Team member, announced Thursday by D3football.com.

The safety recorded 89 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and five interceptions in 2018 to help the Storm's defense finish first in American Rivers Conference play with 19.6 points allowed per contest. Holmes is currently second all-time in team history with 276 career tackles, just 63 tackles shy of tying the record that was set by Jarrod Young, who had 339 during the 1993-96 seasons.

D3football.com recognized Holmes in 2017 and 2018 by naming him to the All-West Region Third Team and is also a two-time all-conference first team performer during those seasons.

The Atlantic, Iowa native is the first Simpson football player to receive preseason recognition by D3Football.com since Luke Stover, who was placed on the third team at defensive tackle in 2008.

The Storm travel to Bethel on Sept. 7 to kickoff the 2019 campaign. The contest will start at 1 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
