Simpson swept by Coe in return to action

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Simpson College women's volleyball returned to action on Friday night, but came up empty in a 3-0 loss to Coe.

The Kohawks (14-10, 4-2 A-R-C) overcame an 18-14 deficit to win the opening set 25-22 and pushed their lead in the match to 2-0 behind 16 kills and a .412 hitting efficiency in the second frame. Coe finished off the sweep with a 25-13 win in set three. Simpson (8-19, 3-3 A-R-C) struggled hitting the ball throughout, finishing the match with a .041 hitting percentage.

The two teams came into the match tied for third place in American Rivers Conference standings. With two regular season matches to go, Simpson is tied with Central for fourth place. The Dutch took down the Storm's Saturday opponent, Wartburg, in five sets tonight and will face the Kohawks tomorrow.
