Storm sweep Buena Vista in midweek conference action

STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Simpson College women's volleyball team earned its first American Rivers Conference sweep of the year against Buena Vista on the road.

SET SUMMARY

  • Simpson (8-17, 3-2 A-R-C) trailed 11-10 before running away with a 12-0 run, eventually winning the opener 25-16. Emily Williams led the Storm with seven kills in the set, making just one error in 12 attempts for a .500 hitting efficiency.
  • The Storm used scoring runs of 7-0, 4-0 and 5-0 to come away with a 25-17 win in set two. Simpson's attack was widespread as Teria Campbell, Lauren Roman and Williams each recorded at least three kills. Morgan DenBeste chipped in two kills as well as a pair of aces and a block.
  • In the final set, Simpson's middle hitters took over on both offense and defense. Peyton Mitchell hammered down five kills in seven attempts while tallying two blocks, and Roman recorded two aces, a kill and a block. The Beavers (6-15, 0-5 A-R-C) kept things much closer throughout, but a late 7-2 run fueled by three kills and an ace from Mitchell proved to be the difference as Simpson closed the game out with a 25-22 win.
