Simpson volleyball concludes regular season at Augustana Pumpkin Bash

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Simpson College volleyball team closed the regular season with three non-conference games at the Augustana Pumpkin Bash between Friday and Saturday.

Simpson (8-14, 4-4 A-R-C) was swept by Benedictine (Ill.) and Augustana (Ill.) on Friday before claiming a 3-1 victory over Dominican on Saturday morning.

Jessica Jacobs was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the weekend. Jacobs had double-digit kills in each of the Storm's contests with 43 total over the three-game span. She hit over .400 for the second time this season against Dominican, and added 12 digs, five aces, three blocks, and two assists.

The Storm's other offensive leaders were Blayne Koster with 13 kills and Elizabeth Conroy with 12. Conroy also had five blocks including two solo denials.

Marissa Salber dished out 73 assists and led the team with 26 total digs, while Iman Ghalibaf (20) Rachel Hardwick (20) and Ellie Gray (19) each contributed double-digit digs as well.

Game One - Benedictine 3, Simpson 0
The Eagles (16-11, 9-3 NACC) had some timely runs and committed just three errors between the first and second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match with 25-15 and 25-12 wins. In the third and final frame, Simpson maintained the advantage out to 16-15 before the tide began to turn. The Storm pulled back within two at 21-19, but Benedictine would score four of the last five for the sweep.

Game Two - Augustana 3, Simpson 0
After Augustana (10-21, 2-6 CCIW) won the opening set 25-15, the two teams went back-and-forth in the second frame until the Vikings claimed a 28-26 win. Simpson fought off two set-points and had two of its own but the host school outlasted the Storm to go ahead 2-0. The Vikings then completed the sweep with an 11-point victory in set three.

Game Three - Simpson 3, Dominican 1
Simpson hit better than .300 in three of four sets including two over .400 to get back in the win column with a 3-1 victory. The Storm tallied 15 kills in the first set to earn a 25-21 win and then had just one error in each of the third and fourth set in a couple of dominating wins, 25-14 and 25-13.

Up Next
Simpson is set to compete in the A-R-C Tournament for the first time since the 2013 season on Tuesday. The Storm earned the No. 6 seed in the bracket and will travel to No. 3-seeded Loras for a 7 p.m. contest.
