Simpson drops two at UW-La Crosse Invite

La CROSSE, Wis. -- The Simpson College volleyball team opened the two-day Wisconsin-La Crosse Invitational on Friday, but dropped both its matches.

The Storm (3-4) lost the opener, 3-0, to the Eagles (9-1) and fell 3-0 to Wisconsin-Stevens Points (10-2).

Set Scores: 15-25, 22-25, 25-22)

The Eagles started the match on fire by hitting .400 in the opening set to gain an early advantage. The hosts cooled in the second set by just hitting .089, but rallied for a .270 third set.

Junior Jessica Jacobs paced the team with nine kills, while junior Marissa Salber dished out 16 assists. Sophomore Iman Ghalibaf recorded 15 digs in the effort.

UW-Stevens Point 3, Simpson 0
Set Scores: 20-25, 11-25, 9-25

The Pointers swept Simpson after hitting .342 during the match, including a .565 output in the third set.

The Storm managed 25 kills on 23 assists. Simpson's attack had trouble getting through UW-Stevens Point's tough defense after the squad had 10 team blocks.

The Storm close out the invitational with two matches on Saturday. The day begins with an 11 a.m. bout against Hamline and ends against Elmhurst at 3 p.m.
