Storm suffer three-set defeat against Dubuque

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Jessica Jacobs posted double-digit kills for the third match in a row, but the Simpson College volleyball team couldn't get into rhythm offensively and suffered their first American Rivers Conference loss of the season against Dubuque on Friday evening.

The Spartans (8-12, 1-3 A-R-C) took advantage of a slow start by the Storm (5-7, 3-1 A-R-C) to capture a 25-21 victory in set one before hitting .308 in the second frame to move out in front 2-0. In the deciding set, the score was tied on 12 occasions but Dubuque scored seven of the final 11 points to ruin the Storm's chances of a comeback.

Jacobs tallied 12 kills to lead all attackers, while Blayne Koster added seven to go with 11 digs. Marissa Salber tallied 23 assists and 12 digs, and Iman Ghalibaf paced the Storm defense with 15 digs.

Emma Powell and Darby Hawtrey combined for 21 of the Spartan's 40 kills to help Dubuque collect its first conference win of the season.

Prior to the match, the team recognized senior Megan LeMay for her contributions to the program over her four-year career.
