Storm split first day of Central/Grinnell Invite

PELLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College volleyball team split its two matches to pick up its first victory of the fall to begin the Central/Grinnell Invitational in Pella on Friday.

The Storm (1-3) won 3-1 over Wisconsin-Superior (0-2) and dropped a 3-1 match to Minnesota-Morris (1-2).

Minn.-Morris 3, Simpson 1
Set Scores: 25-23, 8-25, 19-25, 27-29

Simpson won the opening set before dropping the next three to the Cougars.

Sophomore Teria Campbell paced the offense with nine kills, while freshman Courtney Paxton and junior Jessica Jacobs each had seven. Junior Marissa Salber passed out 27 assists with 10 digs for another double-double. Sophomore Iman Ghalibaf had a game-high 17 digs.

Set Scores: 25-18, 17-25, 25-22, 25-22

Simpson regrouped for the second match on the day for its first win of the season. Jacobs erupted for 18 kills, while Paxton tallied 15.

The Storm won the opening set before the Yellowjackets rebounded to take set two. Simpson finished off the match with back-to-back set scores of 25-22.
