Penalty kick spells doom for Storm in 1-0 loss

LINCOLN, Neb. – Breaks have been hard to come by for the Simpson women's soccer team this season, and Wednesday night was no different.

Amber Johnson – Nebraska Wesleyan's Amber Johnson, that is – connected on a penalty kick in the 57th minute and the Prairie Wolves (3-1-1) beat Simpson 1-0.

A questionable foul call inside the 18-yard box resulted in the penalty kick attempt for Johnson, who scored her sixth goal of the season.

The Storm (0-5) couldn't come up with the equalizer despite getting five looks at the goal in the final 33 minutes. Amber Johnson – Simpson's Amber Johnson – took two shots on the night, including a header in the 87th minute that sailed high of the mark.

Stephanie Cox made five saves while Madi Francis had four for Nebraska Wesleyan.

Simpson will try for its first win of the season when it takes the home pitch for the first time on Friday, Sept. 13 against Fontbonne. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
