Storm women cruise past Dubuque, remain perfect at home

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Britney Boland had 12 points and nine rebounds to lead a balanced attack for the Simpson women's basketball team, and the Storm remained perfect at home with an 80-53 win over Dubuque on Saturday.

Noreen Morrow and Mackenzie Haupt had 13 points apiece for the Storm (10-5, 3-1 Iowa Conference), who improved to 5-0 at Cowles Fieldhouse with its second-straight 20-plus point win.

Simpson outscored Dubuque 21-12 in the second quarter to pull away for the win, its third in a row. 

Allison Biermeier came off the bench to score 11 points for the Spartans (5-10, 0-4 Iowa Conference), who lost their fourth game in a row to start league play.

Simpson's defense held Dubuque without a field goal for nearly six minutes in the second quarter, mounting a 16-3 run in the process to build a 38-22 lead. Katie Ahrenholtz had six points during the charge, and Haupt and Megan Lankford made 3s to help the Storm pull away.

The Storm are averaging better than 78 points and shooting 47 percent from the field in their three-game winning streak. 

Up next: Simpson goes to 13th-ranked Wartburg on Wednesday, Jan. 20. The Knights (12-3, 2-2) lost to Buena Vista 83-80 on Saturday in Storm Lake.
