Boland's late 3 pushes Storm past Wisconsin Lutheran

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Maddie Bosworth had a game-high 21 points, Britney Boland scored the game-winning 3 with 6 seconds left and the Simpson women's basketball team beat Wis. Lutheran 62-60 in the first round of the Washington-St. Louis McWilliams Classic on Friday.

Boland hit the game-winning 3 out of a timeout after Katy Walz hit two free throws to put Wis. Lutheran up 60-59 with 22 seconds left. Karisa Pedersen's 3 at the buzzer went off the mark to put Simpson in the tournament championship game.

The Storm (4-3) will play No. 11 Washington-St. Louis at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Bears beat Rhodes 56-47 in the other first round game.

Noreen Morrow finished a rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 16 points on 8 of 9 shooting. Boland finished with 11 points.

Simpson trailed 24-21 at halftime but mounted a 13-0 run early in the third quarter to take an eight-point lead. Morrow scored eight points during the run, which Bosworth capped off with a 3 to give Simpson a 34-26 lead with 6:44 left.

Sipmson led until Pedersen hit a 3 to it 47-all with 5:35 left in the game. Wis. Lutheran drew even six times in the final period before Walz's free throws with 22 seconds left.

Walz came off the bench to lead the Warriors (4-2) with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
