Second half run helps Storm pull away from Coast Guard

TRUJILLO ALTO, Puerto Rico - Mackenzie Haupt scored 16 points to lead the Simpson women's basketball team in a 57-46 win over Coast Guard in the Puerto Rico College Sports Tour Tournament on Monday.

Noreen Morrow added 14 points, including eight during a key 11-2 run to start the second half as the Storm (6-4) won their second game in a row and fifth in the last six. 

Simpson was outrebounded 44-37 but shot better than 40 percent from the field. The Bears (4-5) shot just 29.3 percent in dropping their third game in a row.

Simpson led 19-10 after the first but saw its lead shrink to four at halftime. Morrow made the first three field goals of the half and Morgan Mauro hit a 3-pointer as Simpson opened a 38-25 lead with 4:09 left in the third quarter.

The Storm led by as many as 14 in the fourth quarter and led the entire game.

Meghan Fornaro led all scorers with 17 points for Coast Guard.

Up next: Simpson closes the tournament Tuesday against Lebanon Valley.
