Women's basketball set to host Simpson Classic

The Simpson women's basketball team will host the Simpson Classic on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 27-28 at Cowles Fieldhouse in Indianola. 

Buena Vista, Grand View and Iowa Wesleyan will take part in the two-day tournament. All games will be video streamed on simpsonathletics.com and the Simpson/Grand View matchup will be aired live on KNIA 1320 AM/95.3 FM.

The tournament begins Friday at 5 p.m. when Grand View plays Buena Vista. Simpson takes on Iowa Wesleyan in game two. Saturday's first game features Buena Vista and Iowa Wesleyan at 1 p.m. with Simpson and Grand View closing the weekend out in a 3 p.m. tip.

The Storm: Simpson comes into the weekend with a 1-3 record after suffering back-to-back losses to Wis.-River Falls and Wis.-Stout last weekend at the Gustavus Adolphus Classic. The Storm were picked fifth in the Iowa Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll released this week. Senior guard Maddie Bosworth leads the team with 12.3 ppg and sophomore post Noreen Morrow has come on strong in her first season as a starter, averaging 10.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg. Head coach Brian Niemuth came into the season 10th among active Division III coaches with 535 career wins.

All-time series: Simpson has dominated the series with Iowa Wesleyan, winning 14 of 15 all-time. Iowa Wesleyan beat Simpson in Indianola in 2013-14 but the Storm responded with a 70-56 win in Mount Pleasant last season.

Grand View leads the all-time series with Simpson 17-14, but the Storm earned a dramatic 84-83 win in Des Moines last season.
