Storm lose to Wartburg

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson women's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Wartburg team, losing 75-59 on Saturday afternoon at Cowles Fieldhouse.

Bobbie Burrows scored 22 points and made six 3-pointers for Wartburg, which shot better than 62 percent in the first half. Kailey Kladivo and Miranda Murphy added 10 points apiece for the Knights (12-7, 3-5 Iowa Conference).

Brittany Hedrick scored 19 points and MacKenzie Haupt had 14 and six rebounds for the Storm (14-5, 4-4), who suffered their first home loss of the season.

Simpson trailed by as much as 14 in the first half, when Burrows did most of her damage. She got loose for three 3s and had 13 points by the break.

Despite the big effort by Burrows, the Storm stayed close, thanks in large part to Hedrick. The sophomore also had 13 in the half, knocking down two 3s in the final 5 minutes to help close the gap to 49-41.

Wartburg pulled away in the second half. After a layup by Haupt cut the lead to 52-46, the Knights mounted an 18-6 run to build a 70-42 lead with 10:41 to play.
