Coe's long-range shooting shooting sinks Storm

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Maddie Bosworth scored 13 points off the bench but the Simpson women's basketball team couldn't get past a hot-shooting Coe team on Wednesday, losing 70-55.

Mickey Hansche went 5-for-7 from 3-point range and Aleena Hobbs had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Kohawks (16-8, 9-4 Iowa Conference). Coe shot better than 47 percent for the game and made 9 of 14 3s.

Brittany Hedrick scored 12 points - all in the first half - for the Storm (16-8, 6-7).

Coe pulled away with an 11-0 run early in the second half. MacKenzie Haupt hit a 3 to pull Simpson within 39-36 before Jenna Lehman answered with a 3 of her own. Hansche hit two more long balls and Coe took a 50-36 at the 14:42 mark.

Simpson fought to narrow the gap to seven when Katie Ahrenholtz knocked down a jumper to make it 59-52 with 6:17 left. Hansche answered with her fifth 3 and Hobbs rattled off six straight points - including four from the charity stripe - to put it out of reach. Hansche finished with a game-high 19 points.

The Storm used a 10-0 run late in the first half to take a 27-25 lead on Whitney Van Wyk's 3-poitner with 3:01 left. Coe responded by closing the half on a 10-4 run of its own, taking a 35-31 lead at halftime.
