Hedrick, Berrian named January Student-Athletes of the Month

Women's basketball player Brittany Hedrick led the team in scoring during the month and wrestler Devan Berrian continued an impressive season on the mat as the duo earned Student-Athlete of the Month honors for January 2015.

A sophomore from Ankeny, Iowa, Hedrick led the team in scoring with 12.3 points per game while handing out three assists per game during the month. She reached double figures in six of the Storm's nine games and scored a season high 20 points with five 3-pointers in the Iowa Conference opener at Coe on Jan. 7. In a key game against conference-leader Luther on Jan. 21, Hedrick banked in a game-tying 3 as regulation time expired, propelling Simpson to an 88-81 overtime win.

A freshman from Brandon, Fla., Berrian posted a 7-2 record in January, including a 3-1 mark in Iowa Conference duals. At month's end, the first-year 133/141-pounder owned a 12-3 mark, giving him a team-best .800 winning percentage. At Cornell's Matman Invitational, Berrian won his first three matches before defaulting due to injury, giving him sixth place overall.
