PELLA, Iowa – Three days removed from a forgettable offensive performance in a loss to Luther, the Simpson women's basketball team bounced back with a 68-41 win at Central on Saturday afternoon.
MacKenzie Haupt had 15 points and six rebounds and Brittany Hedrick had 11 points for the Storm (15-6, 5-5 Iowa Conference), who recovered after a 45-35 loss at Luther on Wednesday.
Krista Bousema had nine points and seven rebounds and Jackie Kriegel pulled down 11 rebounds for the Dutch (9-12, 0-10), who lost their 10th game in a row after a 9-2 start.
Simpson led from the opening tip, getting 11 points from Haupt in the first half while building a 37-19 lead. The defense took over in the second half, holding Central to 4-for-29 shooting and just 1-for-13 from 3-point range.
The Storm broke the game open with a 13-2 run that spanned from the 3:07 mark in the first half till the 17:30 mark in the second. Simpson held Central without a field goal during the length of the run.

Simpson hosts league-leading Dubuque on Wednesday, Feb. 11. The Spartans (14-7, 8-2) lost to Coe 70-56 on Saturday. Dubuque won the season's first meeting, 78-72 in Dubuque.
