Men's swimming finishes seventh at Pioneer Classic
GRINNELL, Iowa — The Storm men finished up the Pioneer Classic on Saturday, finishing in seventh place out of 12 teams with 283 points. Grinnell won the meet with 1364.5 points.
"We're very pleased with our results. Both the women's and men's team placed higher than we ever have in this meet," head coach Tom Caccia said.
Tyler Marine had career-bests in both the 100 and 200 backstroke. Marine finished eighth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.18, and finished 14th in the 200 with a time of 2:10.00.
The 200 medley relay team of Tyler Marine, Dylan Gray, Michael Reuter, and James McKee placed ninth with a time of 1:44.35, which is the third-best time in school history. The 400 freestyle relay team of Gray, Marine, Cody Carlson, and McKee finished 11th in 3:26.41, which marks the second-best time in school history.
Gray finished sixth in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:03.18 and 16th in the 100 freestyle with 51.03.
Phoenix Russell finished second in the 1-meter diving after 11 dives with a score of 286.55.
"We had a 100% effort on both sides and most of our swimmers had at least one season or personal best time," Caccia said. "You can't expect much more than that."

The Storm have a break before they return in the new year to host Iowa Lakes Community College on Saturday, Jan. 14th. The dual is set for 1 p.m.
