Men's swimming beats Tabor for first win

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Tyler Marine and Dylan Gray combined to win six events and the Storm men's swimming team beat Tabor 97-71 Friday for its first dual win of the season.

Marine won the 200 IM, the 200 backstroke and led off the winning 400 medley relay team as the Storm moved to 1-3 on the young season. Gray continued his early-season dominance, winning three events for the third meet in a row. He touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle and the 200 breaststroke while joining Marine in the 400 medley.

"We have a good solid base that hopefully we'll be able to build on in the next couple of years," head coach Tom Caccia said. "They're learning from the seniors, so it's a great combination this year."

A freshman, Marine swam season-bests in both individual events, swimming 2:14.69 in the 200 IM and 2:11.63 in the 200 backstroke. Gray swam a season-best 22.39 in the 50 free and finished the 200 breaststroke in 2:42.07. Marine led off the 400 medley relay for a win in 3:50.83 with Gray, Michael Reuter, and James McKee.

Another freshman, Sam Law won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:21.53, the second-best time in school history and fastest since 2013. McKee and Ethan Woodruff each took second in the 100 and 200 freestyle, respectively.

"It was good to get a win on the guy's side," Caccia said.
