Men's swimming in sixth after first night at Pioneer Classic

GRINNELL, Iowa — Strong relays led the men's swimming team to a sixth place start at the two-day Pioneer Classic on Friday night.

The Storm currently have 48 points. Out of 11 teams, Grinnell leads with 377.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Dylan Gray, Ethan Woodruff, James McKee, and Cody Carlson placed sixth in the first men's event of the night with a time of 1:30.79. This time is second-best in school history.

The 400 medley relay team rounded out the night for the men, finishing 11th in the fifth-best time in school history. Tyler Marine, Dylan Gray, Michael Reuter, and Cody Carlson swam in 3:53.51.

Gray also finished eighth in the 50 freestyle relay with a time of 22.44. Carlson finished 22nd in 23.17 and Woodruff was close behind with his top 50 freestyle time of 23.32, marking the fourth-best time in school history.

A freshman, Sam Law placed 16th in the 500 freestyle in 5:26.07. This marks Law's career best and the third-best in school history for the race.

The Pioneer Classic continues on Saturday.
