Men's swimming falls to Coe in conference dual

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Phoenix Russell broke the school diving record and Dylan Gray won all three of his events, but the Storm men could not come out on top in a dual at Coe on Friday night.

Coe defeated Simpson 127-77.

"We just didn't have the numbers to compete with them on the men's side," head coach Tom Caccia said. "Dylan had a very good early season meet, winning all three of his events."

Gray took first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.56, the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.08, and anchored the 200 freestyle relay in 1:33.57. McKee, Marine, Woodruff, and Gray combined for the fifth best time in school history in the event.

Phoenix Russell won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 193.55 setting the school record previously held by JJ Hansen, set in 2014-15 (171.90).

Freshman Tyler Marine won the 100 backstroke in 57.34, which is second-best in school history.

"Some of our swimmers had some very difficult combinations of events," Caccia said. "I was impressed with the way we approached the meet from our times, but also our attitude."
