Neumann named IIAC Player of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Simpson men's soccer player Tyler Neumann earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Offensive Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 28, the conference office announced late Monday.

A freshman forward from Johnston, Iowa, Neumann led the team with five points during the week, including two goals in a 2-0 win over Buena Vista on Oct. 23 to close out the regular season and an assist on the game-winning goal in No. 5-seed Simpson's 1-0 win over No. 4-seed Wartburg in the first round of the IIAC Tournament on Oct. 27.

The win against the Knights improved the Storm's record to 13-7-1 on the year and snapped an 11-game winless streak in the series. Simpson's 13 wins are the most since going 15-5-2 in 2002.

The weekly honor is the second for Neumann this season. He also won on Sept. 4 after scoring eight points off three goals and two assists in wins over Crown and Bethel.

With Saturday's win over Wartburg, the Storm advance to the IIAC Tournament semifinals. There, they will face top-seeded and No. 3 Loras at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31 in Dubuque, Iowa.
