White strikes twice as Storm snap 4-game skid

CANTON, Mo. – Mitchell White scored a pair of goals as the Simpson men's soccer team beat Culver-Stockton 2-1 on Thursday evening.

Both of White's goals came in the first half as the Storm (5-4) got out to a 2-0 lead. The win snapped a four-game losing streak.

White's first goal came at the 12:56 mark off an assist from Mark Lahart. He struck again thanks to a feed from Tyler Neumann at 19:57.

With his two-goal performance, White tied Neumann for the team lead with five on the season. The sophomore now has three career multi-goal efforts.

Luke Aronow picked up the win in goal, splitting time with Zach McEntee. Aronow made two saves.

Brady Laughman scored the only goal of the game for the Wildcats (2-5), who are coached by former Simpson soccer player and assistant coach, Michael Prutny.

Simpson opens Iowa Conference play Saturday when it travels to Cedar Rapids to face Coe. The Kohawks (3-5) lost to Elmhurst 2-0 on Wednesday.

Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.

Notes: After Thursday's game, Simpson's goal total moves to 28 through the first nine games, tying last year's 19-game total ... Lahart and Neumann are tied for the team lead with four assists each ... Simpson and Culver-Stockton played a one-goal game in 2011 as well, with Simpson taking a 3-2 win thanks to a second overtime goal from Jeremy Reinert.
