Loras ends Simpson's season

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Simpson's best season in 10 years came to an end Wednesday night with a 6-0 loss to Loras in the semifinal round of the Iowa Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.

Johnny Rummelhart provided the game-winning goal in the 14th minute and the top-seeded and No. 3 Duhawks (18-1-1) held a 19-6 advantage in shots taken, advancing to Saturday's IIAC Tournament Championship game against sixth-seeded Central. The Dutch upset second-seeded Dubuque 2-1 in double-overtime on Wednesday.

Jeremy Reinert took two shots for the fifth-seeded Storm (13-8-1), who saw their season come to a close with the loss. After not attempting a shot in the first 45, the Storm took six in the second half but were unable to find the back of net against a stingy Loras defense.

The Duhawks have yet to concede a goal against an Iowa Conference opponent in 2012.

Just 1 minute and 27 seconds after Rummelhart put Loras on the board, Kevin Cavers knocked in a free kick from 35 yards out. Sean Lewis added a third goal in the 29th minute to give Loras a 3-0 lead at the break.

Louie Oswald, Alejandro Cosmopolis and Jonathan Colucci all scored second-half goals.

Simpson's 13 wins are the most since winning 15 in 2002 as the Storm had their first winning season since 2002 behind second-year head coach Rick Isaacson.
