McNally, Spree tabbed CoSIDA Academic All-District

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2021 Football Academic All-District Team, and seniors Joe McNally and Mason Spree have been honored for both their academic and athletic achievements for the Simpson College football team this season.

This is McNally's first time being recognized on the academic all-district team, while Spree makes his second appearance after landing on the first team last year. In July, he became the sixth academic all-america selection in program history. Both McNally and Spree will be placed on this year's all-america ballot with first-, second- and third-team honorees to be announced in December.

A wide receiver from Waverly, Iowa, McNally holds a 3.70 GPA as a criminal justice major. He was named to the American Rivers Conference All-Academic Team in 2020, and finished his senior campaign ranked ninth in receiving yards per game in the league. McNally had six touchdowns to bring his career total to 15.

An offensive lineman from Waverly, Iowa, Spree boasts a 3.88 GPA as a computer science and management information systems double major. He is a three-time All-A-R-C Academic Team and recently earned a spot on the All-A-R-C First Team for the second time in his career. Spree protected a trio of quarterbacks that combined for the fourth-most passing yards in the conference, helped Simpson gain 935 yards on the ground, and scored a touchdown in his final career game.

This is the 13th consecutive year the Storm football team has been represented by at least one student-athlete on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. Twenty-eight student-athletes have been honored during that span.
