No. 13 Central too much for Storm in A-R-C contest

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Blaine Hawkins threw for 424 yards and seven TDs and No. 13 Central's high-powered offense spoiled Simpson College football's American Rivers Conference home opener in an 84-16 contest on Saturday.

The Dutch (4-0, 2-0 A-R-C) remain as the only unbeaten team in the league after amassing 789 yards of total offense, with 556 coming through the air to score on their first 10 possessions. Both the passing and total yard outputs are A-R-C records.

After Central scored on its opening possession, the Storm (0-4, 0-2 A-R-C) ushered a 14-play, 62-yard drive to trim the deficit to 7-3 after junior Parker Hansen kicked a 28-yard field goal.

From there, it was all the visitors as the Dutch pushed the contest to 70-3 through the midpoint of the third quarter.

Simpson broke out of its scoring slump with the help of senior Joe McNally. Junior Brett Bobinet found McNally three yards shy of the goal line before McNally used his 6-foot-5-inch frame to bulldoze his way into the endzone for his second score of the year.

Freshman quarterback J Jensen III and sophomore wide receiver Cameron Jones worked together for the Storm's second TD of the day. In the fourth, Jensen III hurled the ball towards a sprinting Jones down the middle of the field to allow him to make an over-the-shoulder catch in the back of the endzone around two defenders for his first receiving TD of his career.

Freshman Hunter Ogle had 128 yards rushing out of the Simpson backfield. Ogle's day was highlighted by a 37-yard rush that he broke free on in the second quarter. Ogle is the first freshman to rush for over 100 yards in game since Jordan Beem ran for 108 on Oct. 19, 2013.

Bobinet finished with 143 yards passing and his top target, McNally, hauled in eight catches for 70 yards. Junior Gavin O'Steen had two catches for 40 yards with a long of 32. O'Steen was also active on kickoff with five returns, including a long of 45 yards to place the offense at the 50-yard line.

On defense, junior Wyatt Schaben had a game-high 12 tackles and recorded one tackle-for-loss. Seniors Jack Bootsmiller and Jaden Henrichs worked together to split a sack to push the Dutch back nine yards.
