Storm defeat Luther behind Ogle's performance

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Hunter Ogle rushed for 173 yards and four touchdowns, and Brett Bobinet threw for three more to help Simpson College football secure its largest-scoring output since 2002 to win 68-34 against Luther in front of a home crowd on Saturday.

The 68 points are the most for the Storm (1-5, 1-3 A-R-C) since the squad tallied 69 against Loras in 2002 and are the second most in the series with the Norse (0-6, 0-4 A-R-C) since scoring 76 in 1998.

Simpson produced 656 yards of total offense for its highest output since racking up 699 yards against Buena Vista on Nov. 10, 2018. The 317 rush yards are also the most since that 56-7 victory over the Beavers.

The Storm started scoring early to end their first seven drives with a TD to capture a 47-7 lead at the break. Ogle recorded all four of his scores during the span on rushes of 64, 21, 12 and three yards. Bobinet found Reed Worth on a 15-yard play, Joe McNally for 19 yards and Cameron Jones on a seven-yard pass to break the rout open.

Luther's Vershon Brooks broke free for a 66-yard gallop for the team's only score of the first half as the game sat at 7-7 in the first.

The Storm defense held firm the rest of the half to force four punts and halted a Norse drive on the one-yard line after a fourth-and-goal attempt was stuffed as the duo of Wyatt Schaben and Sam Wolff brought down Cody Hocker for a one-yard loss.

Austin Bell found paydirt for the second time this fall on a 12-yard play out of the hand of J Jensen III. Brooks scampered for a 33-yard score as both teams scored once in the third.

In the fourth, the visitors outscored Simpson, 20-14, after reaching the endzone on three of its four drives in the quarter. Noah Bruckner erupted for a 64-yard score and Stephen Brower collected his first career collegiate touchdown on a 25-yard run to highlight Simpson's offense in the frame.

Bruckner ended with 102 yards rushing on 11 carries to go along with Ogle's performance out of the backfield. Through the air, Bobinet had 13 completions for 249 yards as six different wide receivers were utilized. McNally hauled in six grabs for 151 yards and Bell grabbed five for 102.

On defense, Carter Paterson had 12 tackles and Schaben collected 10, including three for loss. Laronte Lewis, Molimau Esene and Schaben were all credited with a sack.
