Borgeson, Reis lift Storm to doubleheader sweep of Central

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Brock Borgeson threw a two-hitter in game one, Gage Reis hit a home run in each game and earned the save in game two, and the Simpson baseball team swept Central on Tuesday, winning the opener 11-0 before holding on for a 6-5 win in the nightcap.

Austin Burlin had two hits in each game, extending his hitting streak to 28 games dating back to last season as the Storm (8-15, 5-7 Iowa Conference) won for the fourth time in six games. Reis has now homered in three straight games and is slugging .850 with a double and 11 RBIs over the last four games.

Spencer Gritsch had the only two hits in the opener and Kyle Crampton had a homer and three RBIs in game two for the Dutch (6-13, 4-6), who had won 7 of 8 against their rival.

The Storm head to Luther for a four-game set in Decorah on Friday and Saturday, April 15-16. The Norse (15-7, 4-6) are idle during the midweek after splitting last weekend's series with Loras.

Game One
Borgeson carried a perfect game into the fourth inning before Gritsch doubled with one out. Gritsch had the only other hit for Central as Borgeson (4-2) struck out nine in his first career shutout, needing just 84 pitches to shut down the Dutch.

Reis hit a two-run homer to right in the first inning and Bud Smith crushed a two-run shot to left in the second as the Storm jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The score remained unchanged until the sixth when Simpson took advantage of six walks to plate six more runs, providing plenty of breathing room for Borgeson. 

Game Two
Reis went 2-for-3, homered, drove in three and earned the six-out save as Simpson held on for the one-run win after building a 6-1 lead after four innings.

Burlin doubled to lead off the game and scored on a sacrifice fly by Reis. Nick Carlisle drove in a run on his first hit of the season in the second inning and Reis hit a solo shot to left in the third to give Simpson a 3-0 lead. Reis, Trey Kehoe and Taylor Harmon each had RBIs in a three-run fourth as Simpson enjoyed a 6-1 lead.

A two-run homer by Kyle Crampton sparked a three-run sixth for Central as the Dutch pulled to within 6-5.

The rally ended there, though, as Trevor Dudar and Reis combined to allow just one hit in the final three frames. Reis struck out the side in the eighth and retired three straight after allowing a leadoff double in the ninth for his first save.

Jalen Sickels earned his first career win, allowing one hit and one unearned run in four innings of work.
