DECORAH, Iowa - The Simpson baseball team ran into a hot-hitting Luther team Friday afternoon, losing the first two games of the four-game set 16-2 and 14-4.
Game two was cut to seven innings due to the 10-run rule.
On a day with few bright spots, Austin Burlin recorded a hit in each game to extend his hitting streak to 30 games. The senior singled in the third inning of game one was 0-for-3 in game two before doubling in the seventh inning for the Storm (8-17, 5-9 Iowa Conference), who had won 4 of 6.
Jon Opdahl went 6-for-7 on the day, Mitch Knippenberg drove in five runs and Zcenvic Rojer had a home run and five RBIs in the opener for the Norse (17-7, 6-6).
Gage Reis had three hits on the day and Trevor Dudar drove in two runs for Simpson in the nightcap.
The teams conclude the four-game series Saturday at 1 p.m. The first game is set for seven innings and game two will be a nine-inning contest.
