Four wrestlers compete at Grand View Open

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Simpson College women's wrestling team had a quartet of wrestlers make the short trip to Des Moines to compete at the Grand View Open on Saturday.

Jenna Joseph continued her stellar freshman campaign with her second third-place finish in as many meets, improving to 26-6 overall with a 5-1 record at 170 pounds. She won her first match 10-0 over Emma Crichton (Chadron State) but fell to the consolation side of the bracket with a 6-0 loss in the quarterfinals. Two straight pins and a 6-0 win of her own propelled her to the third-place match, which she won via forfeit.

Kylie Rae Torres went 3-2 overall in the 109-pound bracket to finish in fifth place. She was pinned twice but secured 6-1 and 5-4 decisions over Maria Diaz (Morton) and Evelin Geronimo (Ottawa), respectively, before claiming fifth with a forfeit.

Kari German tallied two pins and Frankie Graham added one of her own.

The Storm will head to Naperville, Ill. for the NCWWC Regional Championships on Feb. 19. The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the NCWWC National Championship taking place on March 4-5 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
