Simpson to host Team Iowa Girls Cadet/Junior National Team Camp

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson College has been selected by Iowa USA Wrestling to host the Iowa Girls Cadet/Junior National Camp on July 7-9, 2023. This year's national camp will take place in the relocated Luther Hill Wrestling Complex, which includes over 8000 square feet of new mats, a running track and a cardio deck.

This marks the second straight year Simpson was selected to host the girl's camp consisting of more than 80 wrestlers from across the state. Last year, under the direction of Simpson's head coach Jeff McGinness, Team Iowa won the team title at the Under-16 Women's Freestyle National Championships. It was the first time in state history Iowa's 16U/Cadet women's freestyle team won the national title. Prior to last year, the team's best finish was ninth in both 2012 and 2019.

"We are thankful to the Iowa USA board and Iowa Women's Director Chalotte Bailey for this opportunity," said McGinness. "Last year's team success at nationals along with the explosive growth we are currently seeing with girl's wrestling in the state provides a great opportunity to springboard Iowa to the forefront of girl's wrestling nationally."
