McChesney earns all-conference honor for Storm wrestling

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Simpson sophomore Dylan McChesney has been selected to the All-American Rivers Conference Wrestling Team for his efforts at the NCAA Lower Midwest Regional, the league announced on Thursday.

In order to receive all-conference status, a wrestler must finish in the top three among A-R-C place-winners at the NCAA Lower Midwest Regional Championships that were held from Feb. 29 to March 1 in Dubuque, Iowa. McChesney placed third among league competitors in the 125-pound division with a sixth-place performance.

McChesney becomes the first Storm wrestler to earn all-conference honors since 2018, when John Gioffredi and Noah Robinson both placed fifth at the regional championships.

The Northglenn, Colo. native used a 56-second pin in the opening bout and then grabbed a 9-3 decision, both against league opponents, to become the lone Simpson grappler to advance to day two at regionals. McChesney dropped all three matches on Sunday to earn sixth.

McChesney ended his sophomore slate with a 16-14 record after starting the season with five wins in seven chances. He tied for first on the team with seven pins and had the most triumphs against league foes at five.
