Women’s gymnastics continues to show improvement in Illinois

DEKALB, Ill. – The Simpson College women's gymnastics team saw another jump in its overall team score on Saturday as the Storm compiled a score of 185.175 at a tri-meet with Division I foes Northern Illinois and Kent State.

The Storm had their highest score of the season on floor with a 48.025. Emma Tolbert led the way with the program's first 9.800 in any event. Avery Ingram and Izzy Brown also earned career-bests during the rotation, with Ingram receiving a 9.700 and Brown a 9.550.

Ingram, who placed third overall in the all-around competition, also had a personal-best on beam with a 9.725. The score was the team's highest on beam all season. Kaelyn Tally' career-best of 9.550 was the second-highest score for the Storm and Brooklen Morgan was next with a 9.425.

Annika Cole (9.050) and Avril Crespin (9.025) became the first Storm gymnasts to eclipse the 9.000 mark on bars, and Morgan Svec paved the way for Simpson on vault with a 9.550 in her event debut.

Brown competed in all four events for the first time in her career and tallied an all-around score of 34.875 to finish one place behind Ingram with a 37.425.

Northern Illinois edged Kent State 195.375-195.025 to win the overall trophy, but the Huskies and Flashes split the event titles. The hosts won bars (48.900) and beam (49.200), while Kent State won vault (48.600) and floor (49.425).

Simpson finished the day with a 47.050 on vault, a 43.475 on bars, a 46.625 on beam and a 48.025 on floor.
