Tessena, Tolbert win individual titles at first-ever competition
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Baily Tessena and Emma Tolbert claimed individual event titles to lead the Simpson College women's gymnastics team in its first-ever competition on Sunday.
The Storm finished the day with an all-around score of 180.500, winning the vault (46.500) and beam (46.850) team titles while recording a 41.950 on bars and 45.200 on floor.
Tessena won the balance beam with a score of 9.650 and Tolbert placed first on floor with a score of 9.575.
Kaelyn Tally came close to adding a third individual title for the Storm on vault, placing second with a score of 9.625 behind Winona State's Kennedy O'Connor who registered a 9.675. Avery Ingram also posted a top-5 finish for Simpson in the event as she tied for fourth with a 9.375.
On floor, the Storm recorded three of the top-5 scores at the meet. Tolbert took the top mark, while Tessena tied for third (9.500) and Ingram came in fifth (9.425). Annika Cole led the squad on the bars with a score of 8.800, and Ingram was Simpson's lone all-around competitor who placed second with a 36.475.
Winona State, which compiled the top team score of 182.625, captured the bars title with a score of 45.375 and edged Hamline 46.250-46.150 for the floor crown. Hamline finished the day with a 181.475 overall score.
