Winegard named First Team Academic All-District

Simpson men's soccer defender Matt Winegard received recognition for his outstanding work in the classroom as well as on the soccer field.

The senior from Muscatine earned a spot on the 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District VII First Team, as announced last week. Winegard is majoring in biology and carries a 3.85 GPA. He earned second team honors in 2008.

Winegard helped lead the Storm to the conference semifinals this year at the IIAC Tournament. Simpson defeated Luther in the first round for its first tournament win since 2005.

Simpson finished the year 6-9-4 (3-4-1 IIAC) which placed fifth in the conference.
