Storm handle Cornell in damp conditions

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Jeremy Reinert (Fr., F, Indianola, Iowa) registered his first-career multi-goal performance on a wet Wednesday night, leading Simpson to a 3-0 blanking of Cornell.

Reinert, who scored the game-tying goal in a 1-1 tie with Coe Oct. 17, now has three goals in the last three games. The eventual game-winner came off Reinert's right foot in the 16th minute, when he one-timed a play from Chris Allen (So., F, Reinbeck, Iowa) into the right side of the goal for a 1-0- Simpson lead.

The Storm (6-5-3, 3-2-1 IIAC) spent a majority of the match's 90 minutes in the Cornell third, outshooting the Rams 23-6 and attempting 11 corners to Cornell's two. Simpson held the edge in shots on goal, 9-3.

Sungeun Kim put both of his shots on goal for the Rams (3-12, 0-6 IIAC), who haven't beaten the Storm in 16 tries.

Corey Miller (Sr., MF, Sioux City, Iowa) provided the first of two insurance goals for Simpson when his corner kick from the left side curled past the goal line in the 30th minute. Reinert's second goal came under five minutes into the second frame when he took a deflection off the goalkeeper and tucked the ball into the back of the frame.

Of Simpson's 23 shots, eight came from Reinert and Miller. Matt Winegard (Sr., D, Muscatine, Iowa) attempted three shots while AJ George (So., F, Nevada, Iowa) and Sandro Tadic (Jr., MF, Urbandale, Iowa) each fired two.

Twenty-two members of Simpson's team saw action in the contest.

With two conference matches remaining the season, Simpson sits in fifth place in the conference with 10 points, trailing Luther (12), Wartburg (15), Dubuque (15) and Loras (21). The Storm's remaining conference contests are with Dubuque and Loras, as Simpson has a chance to gain ground in the conference standings.

Simpson travels to Dubuque Saturday for a 3 p.m. kickoff with the Spartans.
