Miller, Haak score as Simpson tops BVU, 2-0

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Mike Miller and Lucas Haack registered goals for Simpson and the Storm outshot Buena Vista, 24-5 Saturday on its way to a 2-0 win at Buxton Stadium.

Miller's first goal of the season came when he flicked a header into the net off a corner kick from Sandro Tadic in the 37th minute. Haack scored his third goal of the season at the 59:56 mark in a second half in which Simpson attempted 18 shots.

"We met our number one goal of the day and that was to get a win," head coach Mike Wilson said. "I think we can play a lot better but we'll take the win."

Simpson's defense played stout, as the Beavers failed to put a shot on goal throughout the 90 minute contest.

"We got another shutout, but I wish we could be a little more confident and composed in the final third of the field to finish off some opportunities," Wilson said. "Some of our shots were from distance where, as a coaching staff, we'd like to see us get a little closer and get into the box to make things easier on ourselves. But we'll take it. It is promising that we are getting shots off; you can't score if you don't shoot, so getting lots of looks is a good thing."

Six Simpson players attempted two or more shots, as Chris Allen lead the way with five. Three of Miller's four shots were on goal.

Josh Youngman didn't need to make a save in notching the win in goal. Dustin Dobbels made nine saves and allowed two goals for Buena Vista.

Simpson will look for its second Iowa Conference win of the season Wednesday, when it hosts Central at Buxton Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
