Dubuque defeats Simpson, 4-1

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Simpson men's soccer team couldn't get things going Saturday afternoon, as Dubuque notched a 4-1 win.

Idrissa Soumaoro scored the match's first two goals and assisted on the third as the Spartans (13-2-2, 6-1 IIAC) opened up a 3-0 advantage 35 minutes into the first half.

Nick McDonald added the fourth goal for the Spartans, who are currently tied for second in the Iowa Conference with Wartburg – both teams have 18 points in conference play.

Jeremy Reinert (Fr., F, Indianola, Iowa) continued his late-season surge, converting his fourth goal in as many matches for the Storm (6-6-3, 3-3-1 IIAC) when he took a Mike Miller (Jr., D, Indianola, Iowa) assist and found the back of the net in the 47th minute.

Simpson out-shot Dubuque, 29-14, but tied Dubuque with four shots on goal.

Nick Kasper made two saves in the winning effort for Dubuque, while Josh Youngman (Sr, Pella, Iowa) didn't make a save on the day.

Simpson, which is currently in fifth place in the conference with 10 points, hosts Concordia-Moorhead in a non-conference match Sunday at Buxton Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m., as the Storm celebrates senior day.
