DUBUQUE, Iowa — Jake Weber scored 23 points to go along with 12 rebounds and a hot-shooting Dubuque squad ran away from the Simpson men's basketball team 80-65 on Wednesday.

Jamaree Atwater had 14 points and nine rebounds and Jalen Jackson added 13 points off the bench for the Spartans (6-8, 3-3 Iowa Conference), who used a 17-3 run to close the first half to take control of the game.

Simpson started the game off well, leading by as many as eight before Dubuque got hot. Jackson provided the spark, scoring eight straight points -- including an and-one and a 3-pointer -- during the big run to close the half. Dubuque led 34-26 at the break and opened the second half on an 12-4 run to put the game out of reach.

Sam Amsbaugh had 14 points to lead the Storm (9-5, 2-3), who dropped their third game in a row. Austin Turner had 13 points, DJ Dafney finished with 11 rebounds and Jamie Montgomery scored 11 points, shooting 3-for-4 from 3-point range.

Simpson cut the lead to 10 in the second half, but Dubuque had an answer for each run.

Weber went 11-for-13 from the field for Dubuque, which shot better than 56 percent from the field and 69 percent in the second half. Coming into the game Simpson had held opponents under 40 percent shooting on the year, tops in the IIAC.

Dubuque won its 10th straight in the series, a streak that dates back to the 2013-14 season.
