#StormTop10 Individual Performances No. 2: Amsbaugh drops 40 on Saint Mary's
Sam Amsbaugh's unique skill-set was on full display on Monday, Nov. 28 at Cowles Fieldhouse. That night, the junior put together one of the greatest single-game efforts in school history by scoring a career-high 40 points in an 82-66 win over Saint Mary's (Minn.).
Amsbaugh beat the Cardinals inside-and-out, pump-faking, wheeling and scooping his way to 22 points in the paint while going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. He went 9-for-12 from the free throw line and added 11 rebounds.
After missing his first shot of the game, Amsbaugh missed just three the rest of the way. He didn't miss from the field in the second half, going 6-for-6.
Amsbaugh notched the 10th 40-point game in school history and first since Jason Soppe scored 41 against Grinnell in 2006.
He followed up his big effort with 38 points in a loss to Grinnell and 21 in a win against Wartburg. The awards rolled in for Amsbaugh, who was named U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Player of the Week, Iowa Conference Player of the Week and earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week.
Amsbaugh went on to earn All-IIAC First Team honors, averaging 18.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He enters his senior season with 995 career points.
