Baseball places four on all-conference team

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Four members of the Simpson College baseball team earned All-American Rivers Conference accolades for the 2024 season, highlighted by Trey Castile garnering first team recognition.

Castile was selected as a first team pitcher for the second year in a row, while Nate Cagley, Drew Carlson and Eli Feekin were all honorable mention picks.

Castile and Feekin led the Storm pitching staff to a 5.00 earned run average, combining for 148 of the team's 354 strikeouts that ranked second in the conference. Cagley and Carlson generated 79 hits and 41 RBIs on the offensive side of the ball.

Simpson finished the year 16-24 overall and 9-15 in conference play. The Storm earned league series wins over Nebraska Wesleyan, Loras and Central.

Trey Castile, first team

  • Senior pitcher from Urbandale, Iowa
  • Earns his second-straight first team recognition following second team honors as a sophomore
  • Held opponents to a .221 batting average
  • Struck out 84 batters (3rd in A-R-C) in 71.0 innings pitched
  • Compiled a career-high six wins in 11 appearances, including two complete games
  • Named A-R-C Pitcher of the Week twice
  • Landed on the national D3baseball.com Team of the Week

Nate Cagley, honorable mention

  • Sophomore designated hitter from Jesup, Iowa
  • Led Simpson with a .338 batting average during conference play
  • Tied for the team lead in overall hits (44) as well as hits against A-R-C teams (25)
  • Ranked first on the team in doubles (11), home runs (4) and RBIs (27)
  • Had 14 multi-hit games, including four with three

Drew Carlson, honorable mention

  • Freshman infielder from Iowa City, Iowa
  • Registered 35 hits in 39 games, including 25 against league foes
  • Tallied 14 RBIs, 17 runs scored and seven doubles
  • Had eight games with multiple hits
  • Made seven appearances on the mound, striking out 10 in 5.0 innings pitched

Eli Feekin, honorable mention

  • Junior pitcher from Papillion, Neb.
  • Had the fourth-lowest ERA in league play (2.47) and third-lowest overall (2.58)
  • Tied for first in the conference with a .172 opposing batting average
  • Made 16 appearances overall, including 10 in relief
  • Struck out 64 batters in 59.1 innings pitched
  • Earned his first career save in a 5-3 win over Central
