Castile’s gem generates second player of the week honor
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – After throwing a one-hit gem to kick off a crucial series win over Central at home, senior Trey Castile has been named the American Rivers Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Castile recorded a career-high 15 strikeouts in a 7-0 victory over the Dutch in the series opener last Friday. He came within one out of a complete game and carried a no-hit bid into the eighth inning, eventually giving up Central's only hit of the day, a pinch-hit single with two outs. He retired the first 11 batters he faced and scattered just three walks the rest of the way to earn his sixth win of the year.
Castile's effort on the mound set the tone for the Storm to win two out of three games over Central, the team's third consecutive series win. Simpson (15-18, 8-10 A-R-C) currently sits in sixth place in A-R-C standings with six league games left.
The Storm will open up their next A-R-C series on Friday against league-leading Coe. The two teams will play the doubleheader portion of the series on Friday at 2 p.m. followed by a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
