Alexa Rhode named head cheer coach

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson College announced today a change in the leadership of its cheer program. Heather Hulen, the head coach for the past six seasons, has decided to step down in order to focus on other professional endeavors. Simpson alum Alexa Rhode has been hired as the new head coach.

"I would like to thank Heather for her tremendous loyalty and commitment to Simpson College and our cheer program," Director of Athletics Marty Bell said. "Her leadership positively impacted countless student athletes and we wish her nothing but the best in the future."

The program will have great continuity with leadership as Rhode returns to campus as a former member and captain of the cheer team.

"We are very excited that Alexa has joined our staff as our new Head Cheer Coach", said Bell. "She brings great experience and energy to the position and I look forward to working with her to develop a championship caliber program for Simpson College."

Rhode graduated from Simpson in 2016 with a degree in psychology. Throughout her four years on the cheer team, Rhode helped develop new stunts and cheers and choreographed routines for the College's annual "Yell Like Hell" event during Homecoming week.

"I am excited to be back as part of the Simpson community," said Rhode. "I am looking forward to helping this program grow and reach the potential I know it has. Roll Storm!"

Tryouts for the 2022-23 Simpson Cheer Team will be held in person on Sunday, April 24 from 8-4 p.m. For more information, click here.
