Track & Field teams take home academic honor

NEW ORLEANS – The Simpson track and field teams earned Division III All-Academic Track & Field Team honors for the 2012 season, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in July.

Simpson boasted the only program in the Iowa Conference to place both its men's and women's teams on the list, as the Storm men were the only team in the league to make the cut.

To qualify, teams needed to post a cumulative team grade point average of 3.10 or better. A total of 211 programs (137 women's, 74 men's) earned the distinction.

The women's team achieved a 3.35 GPA, tied for second in the IIAC with Loras. Luther led the way at 3.41, while Central (3.26), Wartburg (3.24) and former member Cornell (3.12) rounded out the list.

The men's team achieved a 3.16 team GPA, the lone representative form the IIAC.
