Storm take home three titles at Cornell

MT. VERNON, Iowa - The Simpson track & field teams took home three titles at the Cornell Hilltop Invitational this weekend. No team scores were kept.

Matt Stone won the 800 meter run (2:00.10) and Josh Diehm won the high jump (6 feet) for the men while Bayley Fleshner (9.35) broke the tape first in the 60-meter hurdles for the women.

Led by Stone and Diehm, the men’s squad earned 10, top-five performances.

Logan Klein had a good day in the field events, taking second in the long jump (20-5) and third in the triple jump (38-11). Connor McGinnis took third in the high jump (5-10), Brad Vogel placed fourth in the 200 meters (23.30) and fifth in the 60 meters (7.13), Jake Sutton took fifth in the 3,000 (9:18.90) and David Adams placed fifth in the weight throw (46-7 1/2).

The 4x400-meter relay team of Brandon Christensen, Brice Sheeder, Garrett Woodson and Brad Vogel placed second (3:32.26).

The women’s team finished with three, top-five finishes.

April Sigmund had a third-place effort in the 400 meters (1:01.97) and Jade Osborne took third in the 3,000 meters (11:06.69). Courney Licht finished right behind Osborne, taking sixth in the 3,000 (11:55.22).

Wartburg Select

Simpson multi athletes Kinsey Bak and Sammy Nelson competed in the pentathlon at the Wartburg select this weekend. Bak won the high jump and placed third in the competition with 3,037 points. Nelson won the 800 meters, finishing seventh with 2,472 points.
