Harris leads Storm with third-place mark

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Alyssa Harris earned Simpson's top finish so far at the Liberal Arts Championships for the Storm swimming and diving teams on Friday.

After breaking the school record last night in the 200-yard individual medley, Harris touched the wall in 5:00.17 in the 400-yard IM, which landed her in third place on the third day of competition.

Sarah Prendergast tallied second-place in the consolation final in the 200-yard freestyle to receive 10th overall. Katie Cardoza swam to 13th in the 100-yard butterfly and Kristina Smith followed closely in 16th.

The group of Brenna Yeutsy, Mikala Williams-Yee, Cassie Bergman and Harris grabbed the Storm's third top-10 mark of the day, this time coming in the 200-yard medley relay. The relay posted a time of 2:00.62.

For the Simpson men, Ryan Gaumer won the consolation final in the 100-yard butterfly. The sophomore won a swim-off to qualify for the consolation final earlier in the day. Blake Kakacek secured a time of 1:04.76 in the 100-yard backstroke.

The quartet of Austin Andes, James McKee, Gaumer and Kakacek recorded a time of 1:50.00 in the 200-yard medley to finish in seventh place.

Up Next
The men and women return back to the pool tomorrow to finish the Liberal Arts Championships. The first event begins at 10 a.m.
