Simpson competes in first day of Liberal Arts Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Simpson men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the first day of the Liberal Arts Championships on Wednesday.

There were only three events on the first day of competition, the 800-yard freestyle relay for the men and women, and the 1-meter dive for the women.

In the 800-free relay for the women, the quartet of Brenna Yeutsy, Katie Cardoza, Cassie Bergman and Sarah Prendergast finished in 8:49.69 for seventh place.

Naomi Olsgaard earned fifth place in the 1-meter after receiving a score of 310.70 for her efforts.

For the men, Ryan Gaumer, Austin Andes, Sam Law, Blake Kakacek hit the wall in 8:00.61 to land in sixth.

After day one of competition, the women are in fourth place out of 10 with 38 points and the men are in sixth out of eight teams.

Simpson will hit the water at 10 a.m. on Thursday to resume the Liberal Arts Championships at Coe College.
