Caccia set to receive NISCA Hall of Fame Award

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson swimming and diving head coach Tom Caccia is set to receive the 2019 National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association Awards Committee Hall of Fame Award this weekend.

Caccia is adding this award to an already long list of accomplishments as a coach. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2017, the UW-Platteville Hall of Fame in 2017 for Athletic Achievement and Outstanding Coaching in Swimming, named to the Aquatic International's top-100 most influential people in the United States, received the WISCA Outstanding Service award five times and was tabbed as the Wisconsin Division II Coach of the Year on four occasions.

"While I am humbled by an honor like this, I know that this kind of recognition comes from people noticing the kinds of kids I have had the pleasure of coaching," Caccia said. " I have been very fortunate to have supportive families and athletes willing to work hard and do their best."

Caccia has tallied 360 dual meet wins while coaching for 40 years. He has had the privilege of coaching 20 Wisconsin All-State performers, as well as several conference, sectional and state champions. "I expected and demanded a lot from my athletes," he said. "They never let me down and they always worked to exceed my expectations of them."

At the helm of the Storm swimming and diving programs, Caccia just wrapped up his sixth season. Caccia had Naomi Olsgaard claim American Rivers Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week this season and has had 135 school records broken since his first year in 2013, including every record on the men's list.

This is the highest award given by the NISCA for leadership in interscholastic aquatics. To be considered for this honor, an individual must have been selected to the Outstanding Service Award, served aquatics in swimming, diving or water polo for at least 20 years, been a member in good standing of the Association for at least 15 years and have outstanding success as a competitive aquatics coach.
