Season-best times come through at Grinnell Invite
GRINNELL, Iowa - The Simpson women's swimming team put forth 17 season-best efforts at the Grinnell Invitational held Jan. 20-21, placing 10th of 11 teams.
The Storm had one of their best outings of the season at the highly competitive meet, scoring 109 points. Gustavus Adolphus won the meet with 1,247.5 points.
Freshmen Megan Lein and Stefani Smith paced Simpson on the weekend, as each qualified for the finals in three events.
Lein swam season-bests in all four of her individual events. She qualified for the finals in the 100 breaststroke (20th, 1:19.28), the 200 breaststroke (23rd, 2:49.15) and the 400 IM (26th, 5:30.70). She also turned in her fastest time of the season in the 200 IM (56th, 2:34.58).
Like Lein, Smith also posted season-low times in each of her four individual races. She qualified for the finals in the 200 butterfly (21st, 2:35.06), the 400 IM (24th, 5:18.99) and the 200 breaststroke (25th, 2:49.72). She also finished the 100 butterfly in 1:10.94, a season-low and good enough for 34th place.
