Simpson completes regular season in Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Simpson College men's wrestling team completed its regular season schedule on Saturday in Dubuque.

A pair of wrestlers took part in the Dubuque Invitational before the Storm (1-9, 1-7 A-R-C) challenged the Spartans (7-7, 4-4 A-R-C) in their final American Rivers Conference dual of the season. Dubuque won 40-3.

Trace Goemaat and Owen Willers were the two wrestlers competing in the open 285-pound bracket of the tournament. Goemaat earned a couple of pins to place third, while Willers finished fifth.

In dual action, Noel Torres put Simpson on the board with an 8-1 decision over Evan Atchley at 149 pounds. The Spartans secured four pins, a technical fall, two major decisions and a decision in the other eight contested matches.

Simpson travels to Cedar Rapids for the Lower Midwest Regional on Feb. 29-March 1.
