Torres leads Storm at Buena Vista Open

STORM LAKE, Iowa – Led by a sixth-place effort by Noel Torres, the Simpson College men's wrestling team tallied five placewinners at the Buena Vista Open.

Torres (149) earned two wins en route to his second sixth-place tournament finish of the year, pinning Elijah Broesder (Iowa Lakes CC) and Justice Hefley (Iowa Central CC) midway through the second period of each match. He rallied from an 11-0 deficit against Division II wrestler Cael Bridgewater (Upper Iowa) in the fifth place match, but ultimately fell 11-7 to finish sixth.

Ethan Riesselman (141) and Troy Galloway (285) both had seventh place showings. In the 18-man, 141 pound bracket, Riesselman went 2-2 with a pin over Bransford Stone (unattached) and a 12-3 major decision over teammate Isaiah Burney, who placed eighth. Galloway tied Kanin Hable (125) for a team-high three wins, with all three coming by fall.

The Storm will compete at the North Central Invite on Dec. 9, the team's final action before holiday break.
